Local football heroes bring Christmas joy

Local football legends Ian Rush, along with business partner Amar Chopra, and Peter Reid were in Huyton today, donating gifts and toys to families who need a little extra help this Christmas. Ian and Peter handed over bags full of presents to Knowsley Council’s Children’s Services Team who will distribute the toys and gifts to families in need across the borough this Christmas.

Tesco Prescot were also represented by Carol Reid-Evans, who also donated toys and gifts to this worthwhile cause.

Cllr Graham Morgan, Leader of Knowsley Council was there to say a big thank you to Peter and Ian on behalf of the families and children they will be helping. He said:

“I am really grateful that Ian and Peter reached out to us here in Knowsley and that we have been able to make sure that their generous donations will go to families in our borough who are really struggling right now.

The cost-of-living crisis is putting pressure on everyone but for families already finding it hard to make ends meet, buying Christmas presents can be something that many just cannot afford to do. I hate the thought of any child or young person going without a present on Christmas day, so hopefully these gifts will help to ensure that doesn’t happen.”

Former EFC player and Huyton born Peter Reid said:

“Its tough for families at the moment and we just wanted to do what we can to help. As a Huyton lad, I am pleased that we have been able to help out here and hopefully bring some Christmas joy to families in Knowsley this year.”

In addition to the donations made in Knowsley, Peter and Ian have been out and about across the region distributing gifts including visiting Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
